Overview
An e-learning company with an existing iOS sales-training and conference-support application approached Saven Technologies after being dissatisfied with their existing vendor. They needed a new development team, one that would act more like a strategic partner rather than a vendor. The goal was to take over application development as quickly as possible so feature enhancements could continue.
Challenge
There were two main challenges to the engagement. The first was a rapid knowledge transfer. Though the existing vendor was cooperative, it was going to be a race against time to learn all the ins and outs of the application. It had many features, was written in .NET and hosted on Azure with a native iOS application as the user’s front end.
The second challenge emerged soon after the engagement began, which was to implement a browser-based version of the same application in a short span of time to support a requirement from our client’s new customer.
Application Features
Training
Learning Management System functionality, including hosting and serving of learning content (documents, videos, audio files, and SCORM e-learning modules), issuing and tracking training assignments, and a quizzing and assessment module.
Meeting Support
Conference management applications including flexible, role-based scheduling of sessions as well as a module for rating in-person student evaluations that serve to certify the student as trained.
Achievements
A module to award badges upon completion of activities as well as create leaderboards of user performance on assessments which fosters healthy competition among sales trainees.
Notifications
Mobile push notifications as well as Email reminders that alert the users of new training assignments, overdue and upcoming assignments, and conference sessions among other things.
Administrative Module
Robust browser-based administration module for setting up training items and curricula, making assignments, entering conference agendas, and developing assessments.
Solution
Saven Technologies was able to complete knowledge transfer within a month’s time that allowed our client to move on from their initial vendor quickly, saving costs. Our team was able to assume all development activities and continue feature development as well as resolve a host of legacy issues including functional, technical, and performance-related problems. In addition, the synergy provided by Saven Technologies team allowed the iOS and web teams to work more closely together to implement the web-based user application, despite the inherently reduced functionality in a browser-based application without local storage or local machine access.
Result
The client was able to save costs while continuing to enhance and market their application.
